Generally speaking, Paul's style of playing can
be described as a "northern style" (from the north
of Ireland). Some of his favourite listening would be, among
others, the playing of John Doherty and Tommy Peoples.
Influences from Clare, Leitrim, Sligo and Fermanagh
can also be heard in Paul's playing, as well as an element of
piping.
Paul's main influences in learning the fiddle
were firstly his own brothers - Joe and Dominic, both fiddle
players who placed a great importance on timing and tone. Another
strong influence was the fiddler Josephine Keegan, who was strict
about learning the basics correctly.
