| Workshops & Lessons > technique
For the holding of the fiddle and the basic bow
stroke, Paul has developed several exercises and adopted a few
others from famous players and teachers. These are coupled with
exercises specific for practising bowing and fingering patterns
which occur in Irish Music.
Technique, like style, must be developed on an
on-going basis. It can be beneficial even to some seasoned players
to rethink their own technique, and quite a lot of insight can
be gained in one or two hours.
The teaching of technique is most effective in
a specialist class, but to some extent this can be integrated
into a general lesson including the teaching of tunes.
